In spite of taking up snowboarding and exercising it winter makes people lazy. You could attand nor camping naither swimming in the lake. From time to time you can attand going to swimming-pool or watching TV, but it also gets boring quickly. That is the reason of our traveling to castle ruin as well in Poland as in Slovakia. As we ware bored with classes of govern of finance we decided to skip it and...

       It was the beginning of our adventure. One december morning we ware cherfull becouse of being on our way Chyzne.


Expedition I


Oravsky hrad - Reasent of castle which inclouds high, middle and low castle was established in XVI AandXVII century, when all castle palaces ware rebuild and defensive systems ware in power.
Our opinion: The castle built on and into rock is very big but for us isn't especially interesting. More over it is well visible and easy accessible.

Likavka - Gothic castle was rebuilded in XV century. Additionaly there was built another four-flour palace.
Our opinion: The castle is sitated on average hill and surrounded by trick and coniferous forest. I strongy recomed it to anyone, who likes old and deserted castels. There is no road-signs and information how to reach the castle. You must find out the way on your own.

Sklabinsky Podzamok - The castle was build in XIII century. Unfortunately it burnt out in 1436 but andt was quickly renovated in XV century. There was also funded upper castle. Eastern towers ware converted into chapel. The castle was burnt out once again in 1944 by fascists.
Our opinion: It's available by entrance fee. The castle guoardian not only carries about it but also willingly tells history of castle. Anyhow it is interesting. The castle is still renovated. We advise you to take boots and water proof trousers.

Sasov - The medieval castle was established in XIII cettury to protect road that joinded towns near mains. The castle was hardly destroied and sine than.
Our opinion: The castle was established on hill is easy accesable. There is small path leasing to ruin.


Expedition II


Stary hrad - XIII th century castle took after castle its orginal function. The centre of the castle was redeveloped, the underground, late gothic palece and economic buildings ware strengthened. Aditionally there was built tower on eastern side.
Our opinion: The castle is well noticable from E50 motorway near Varin on rocky hill. This building is in the middle of the national park Mala Tatra.

Nawy hrad = Strecno - Redevelpoed ruins of the orgianaly defensive castle are established in the place of charging taxes in front of exit to Żylina.
Our opinion: The castle has been available to look around sine 1995. In spite of the fact that there is steep approach there are also well prepared stairs with green barrier and professional car park.

Hricov - The ruins of the castle on rock in Sulovskie mountain. It was built in XIII century and had many owners until XVII. This place was abandoned in XV century that is why it has quickly turned into ruins.
Our opinion: There is very dificoult steep approach. If you aren't fit enough we don't recomend it for you.

Lietava - Gothic castle with tower was totalny redeveloped and strengtened in XVIcentury. The walls ware finished off renaissance attic. It has been getting into ruin since XVIII century.
Our opinion: Widespread ruins with mild but rathler long approach leading through thick and deciduous forest.There are no road signs but rute and castle are visible, what make easier to land up in castle.


Expedition III


Zborov - The castle was propabely built to protect polish roads in XIII and XIV century. It has been redeveloped into huge buildingrenaissance since 1548 to act as defender.
Our opinion: The castle is well described with informational boards. The path to ruin soreads along river from the beginning to the end. Steep approach leads through the forest or some kind of forest, it used to be. Local Grypsis reguraly cut down trees, we have seen it personally.

Kapusany - The castle was built in XIII century. Towers and sloid fortifications has preserved up today.
Our opinion: The castle is well visible even from the top of far mountain. There is very steep but well marked approach. The path along hillside is recommended to quite fit people, trial among deer's enclosures and pens. Personally, I strongly recommend picturesque landscape.

Saris - The castle, first mentioned in XIII century is established on edge setteled place in stony century.
Our opinion: The first thing which cought our eye was nearby rubbish dump. In spite of that fact we also noticed that there ware the first ruins with its own path especially dedicated for tourists. If somebody prefers walking, I strongly recomand it enyone. What is more thare are many astonishing maps of nuilding at the bottom of the mountain.

Spisky hrad - The most widespread ruins of slovac castle which was built on the place oryginalny caught up in paleolit. The centre included inhabitable tower and palace. The castle was extended to middle yard with exit gate and abrbacaan in XIV century. It had been turned into renaissance defensive residence. UNESCO ranked the castle to the worldwide list of national and curtural inheritance. You can look around not only museum but whole the castle.
Our opinion: The castle on average hill i well visible from far away. There is bautyfull view at sunset.


Expedition IV


Cicava - The castle was built to protect the road to Poland. The greatest redevelopment and enlargement ware in late XV century.
Our opinion: It is worth to pay attention. There is posibility to drive up to the bottom of the hill that castle is established. If you want, you can park your car nearby old country houses in Cicava. There is mild and well prepared path up to ruins, especially recommended to walkers.

Humenne - On the place of recent renaissance and baroque castle with park there used to be gothic one. This one surrounede by moat has fourth extentions and movable bridge.The building was renewed after the fire in 1946. Nowdays, there is not only ramble mouseum in the castle but also folk ararchitecture mouseum in park.
Our opinion: It is worth visiting, if you are in close neighbourhood otherwise it is waste of time.

Jasenov - Ruins of the castle that was strenghteded and spreaded (there ware few departmental tawers with shoot places built) in XV century. One of the fewer where the fake coins ware produced.
Our opinion: This is certainly remarkable place. The castle is situated on the very steep hill, so it is hard but enjoyoing to reach the top. It has been the most exciting experience so far. You must realize that there was snow up to your thigh, that is why managing to negotiate the hight 800 meters under the ground was extremely hard. W e strongle recomand it, if you prefer solid physcal effort.

Brekov - The castle was established in late XIII and early XIV century. Only few extentions have outlasted up today. This one is similar to castle in Tenczynek.
Our opinion: The castle is well visable from far away. It has beed devasteted many times, so little remains of castle walls outleasted up today. The castle has good appearance from far away, unfortunatelly closer it looks much more wores.

Vinne - Ruins's castle which used to belong to Nobel from Michalovice. It had been devasteded and renewed many times, however it has been torn down in early XVIII century.
Our opinion: The ruins of the castle are situated in the forest at the top of the mountain.

Plavec - The castle with renaissance hills has been turned into inhabited bouilding in XVII century. It has survived during destructions of bohemian fortresses.
Our opinion: We have remember it as the castle among firs. We strongly advise that you should drive asphalt road up nearby houses to while way to ruin away.
